Well, my summer plans are finally starting to materialize, and I’m very excited to share that we’ll be making a trip to Colorado! While I’ve been there before, I can hardly count it as a real visit, considering we only stayed one night passing through on our cross-country road trip. However, that one evening was pretty close to idyllic, nowhere near long enough, and I’m chomping at the bit to get back to the rolling green hills of Telluride. We’ll also be camping in a few of the awesome, and varied, National Parks that Colorado has to offer. It’s such a gorgeous state – I can’t wait to explore it!
So….I’m looking for recommendations for restaurants, unexpected stops, and as always, exceptional hot springs! I’ve already got my plans set on one in particular – Dunton, my luxury glamping hotel – but with me, the more, the merrier. I’ve even been known to frequent a hot pot off the side of the road – that’s how much I love them!
Most of all I’m looking forward to bringing some gorgeous views of Colorado to you! I cannot wait to get my camera clicking away. And do you know, that state is so beautiful, I could easily capture it with my mediocre iPhone camera (see photos in this post). Jon wasn’t even interested in photography then, so I’m thrilled to be going back there with much more skill and creativity.
So, I’m off to get planning and in the meantime, I appreciate your Colorado travel recommendations!
Have you been to Colorado? Share any and all of your recommendations with me! And yes, the photo directly below is a real place, it’s called heaven and it’s near Telluride, pretty sure.

You don’t mention how long you will be staying in Colorado and if you will only be visiting the southern part or the whole state… But there are a few things I think are worthwhile, and I’ll confine it to Southern Colorado.
Ouray is a gorgeous little town called the Switzerland of the US, they have 2 hot springs, one is a large outdoor pool and the other is a cave like setting. The town is adorable and less than 2 hours away from Telluride, totally worth checking out and you can explore it in a few hours, including lunch and a very easy waterfall hike to Ouray falls.
The owner (or one of the owners) of Dunton Hot Springs also owns Sutcliffe Winery in Cortez, CO which is not too far from Dunton.
You mentioned you would be seeing some national parks, if so Mesa Verde and it’s cliff dwelings are worth seeing. Stop at the visitor center before you drive into the park to purchase a trip with a guide that takes you to see one up close. This usually involves some climbing and crawling, super fun!
There are so many things to do and climb in Colorado, we have lived in the state for 3 years and still have so much yet to explore.
I have a couple of posts with photos of the gorgeous scenery in Colorado on my wordpress blog.
I hope these tips were helpful!

Sounds like an awesome idea. You really can’t go wrong with Colorado. And yes, Lauren is right, heard a lot of good things about Donut Haus. It’s actually on my bucket list.

Estes Park is an adorable town tucked right near the Rockies. It’s home to The Stanely Hotel (The Shinning), an adorable downtown (with shops and restaurants), and an Aeriel tram. I would recommend Donut Haus as a must. The best donuts I have ever had.
