Okay, I’m the first to admit that I can sometimes have expensive taste. It’s something I wrestle with whenever I am choosing an item and inadvertently pick the most expensive pair of pants from the bunch. Or when the one dress I happen to love in a fashion blogger’s lineup is the one pushing $700. It’s just my luck. But sometimes I can’t help it, and in this case, I embrace it. What I really mean is: I’ve wanted a Chanel brooch for a couple of years now, and I don’t think I’m going to forget about it anytime soon.

I remember the moment when I first spotted one. It was years ago when I was crossing the street in New York City after attending a performance of the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center. There I was, striding through the dark spring night in a pink dress and comfy heels when suddenly I saw it glistening in the red traffic light glow. The entwined C’s were delicately made up of pearls and pinned to the fitted black, cashmere sweater of a chic, blonde, ponytailed woman. I stared. It felt so effortless, a little pin and all of a sudden your entire outfit is elevated. It’s fashion at its height without all the fuss. Something about that perfectly speaks to me.

A few weeks back, I saw some of these pins show up again on other blogs (here and here), so it’s brought that first moment back into my mind. And then I made the mistake of looking at the latest collection and well, I’m still in love.

Of course, I shudder when I think of putting holes in things, but for a Chanel pin, I think I’d stick it to pretty much everything.
