I spent most of this week on my computer, so while I’m sorry the days didn’t last longer, I’m happy to finally see Friday. I wrote this article a few weeks ago, about trying my hardest to grasp onto time as it’s passing, and while I’ve gotten considerably better at it, I still find myself sucked into working. So much so that I forget to eat or find myself overwhelmed – two things that happened regularly this week.
There’s a funny saying called Parkinson’s Law which states that “work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.” For as much as you are willing to work, there will always be work to do. And I continuously find myself in the dreaded quicksand of nonstop work. So I’m going to do my best to shut off this weekend, read a book, have a soak in the tub, and generally unwind. This is the ultimate challenge of being a writer and creative person – our minds don’t shut off easily. I only need to look at something to get inspired to write an article, or I’ll wake up from a dream and know of a photograph I want to take. The artistic life is vivid, yes, but it is also incredibly draining. I find myself inundated with too many thoughts on how to do more all the time, how I should be working harder. But I’ve started to realize things. Working hard is all good and well, and a piece of good work is something you should definitely strive for – but I recognize that I need to be working a little smarter, and having a bit more fun.
So with a little laziness in mind, my dear reader, here’s some suggestions for you to enjoy your weekend!
I laughed so hard from this behind the scenes Tasty video as they try to make a giant raindrop cake. After many tries, several wet splotches on the table, and a few days, we finally get to see the finished, delicious treat!
I also loved this IKEA video about Paul, a button collector (don’t you just love his voice?!):
If you haven’t read Beyoncé’s Vogue cover-story, well get your butt on over here to read it. And if you’re looking for more of a perplexing tale, as I often am, check out this story about a murderer turned crime blogger. It’s fascinating. I’m also super excited to share that one of my previous Girl Crushes of the Month, the spooky and inspiring Christine McConnell, is in production for a show on Netflix (read more about it here!).
I’ve got my head in this book, by a Swedish author, which is turning out to be a great way to spend my time (my Mother suggested it to me!). And I’ve heard good things about this Hugh Grant show on Amazon called A Very English Scandal that I’ll be watching this weekend. I’ve also got my eye on this bag for fall – isn’t it cute?
And in case you’re wondering, today’s photos feature the patio planters that I’ve spent the summer watering, trimming, and fussing over. They’re still growing strong, and I’m looking forward to sharing the plants in a little more depth. They offer a gorgeous setting for a workaholic if I do say so myself!
So with that, I wish you the very best weekend. Try to relax, have a good read, stay off your phone, nix the computer, and laugh as much as possible. And I’m saying that just as much to you as I am to myself!
See you on Monday!
What are your plans for the weekend? And be sure to share any of your favorite books, articles, or music with me!
