While gathering ideas for my patio project, I fell into Pinterest this week, swooning over images of window box flowers. Though I’m using long planters that will sit along my patio walls, rather than boxes that hang in a window, the style and design of the two are much the same. I set out to find inspiration and ended up with heart palpitations as I scrolled image after image of colorful roses climbing stone walls, blooms cascading out of window boxes, and every imaginable combination in between. I suppose it’s too early to hope that my long patio planters will be as whimsical, but a girl can dream…
…and maybe plan to make them that way!
Here’s some of my favorite window box inspiration below:
I love the colors of the wall, shutters and the pop of purple/pink. It’s not trying too hard.
When in bloom, Jasmine gives off the most wonderful smell! I can only imagine how many years this took to grow.
Wild and free, but it works! I like to think of this one as low maintenance.
A simple color palette that looks stylish against any background. White always works.
There’s basically no such thing as too much spillage, the more cascading, the better.
Most beautiful part of New Orleans – wrought iron balconies full of flowers. Hoping to go back here soon…
Perfectly simple but not dull.
I’ll take it! The house too…
And if your house is made of dirt, you could always just grow plants directly out of the sill!
I’m completely in love with climbing plants and trellises, and they would look great on the natural stones outside our home. It seems like a long wait before they’ll look like this, though.
When can I move in?
Use them for clever marketing tricks!
Sometimes one is enough!
Sometimes it isn’t.
Have I got you inspired yet?
From monochromatic baskets, to wisteria climbing up walls, I’m realizing there are no rules to window box design as long as you go for it. I’m going to choose colors I love and taking the leap, filling planters to the brim. And hopefully, by mid-summer, I will have my own waterfall of flowers to swoon over.
