Howdy, and greetings from Wyoming!
I am so excited to be writing this from Jackson Hole, amidst the incredible scenery of Grand Teton National Park. It’s been my dream to visit Wyoming for many years, and I just about cried when we landed in the airport and I saw those epic mountains jutting out of the surrounding plains like a dinosaur’s back. I’ve known this state was a special place for a long time, but ever since I read my first romance novel about a Wyoming ranch and its incredibly handsome owner (hubba, hubba), I knew I had to hightail it there. It’s just another place full of cowboys, big hats, and the lore of the old west — a few of my favorite things.
Sometimes I dream of living in a place like this, writing novels as I watch the elk passing through my grassy backyard. My cabin-like home equipped with a roaring fireplace and a few Pendleton blankets. It’s definitely another life out here. A little slower. A little more country. And, like New Mexico, they have a fabulous hat culture. Sure, it tends to be only old ranchers that wear the whole garb – bolo, decorated boots and all – but at least someone is keeping it alive! After only three days, I’ve already worn all four of the hats I brought with me on this trip – yes, I said four hats! I still am not sure if it was really enough though…
These photos are from a quick hike around Jenny lake in Grand Teton National Park. The whole area is stunning, and we timed our visit to correspond with the fall color change of the aspen trees. I am immersed in fall. The scenery is all golden and orange – beautiful wherever you go.
The marshes are blonde hairs backlit by the sunset. The air smells of the deep woods. The pine trees are tall and geometric as their triangular shapes tesselate up the hillsides.
I’ve seen the mountains. I’ve spotted a momma moose and her baby. And I’m happy.
Wyoming you are a beautiful place!
For now, that will have to be enough for you, because I’m adventuring around the Tetons today and I have many more pictures to take! I’ll be sharing the rest of the trip, as usual, in due time on the blog. But if you’d like to see more of my adventures as they’re happening, follow me on Instagram and watch my stories! That way you’ll be more up to date on my latest shenanigans.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend, whatever your adventures happen to be.
